US French e-copains

Qui suis-je?
Armelle a un nouveau copain

In Armelle a un nouveau copain, you learned various expressions used with the verb être. You reviewed formation of adjectives, and learned where to place them in a sentence. Also, you learned the patterns of several types of irregular adjectives. You can now better describe a person's personality with various adjectives of personality. Finally, you learned to differentiate between using c'est and il / elle est to describe people and things.

Exploration

Explore the following website which deal with locating French-speaking pen pals.
http://www.momes.net/amis/index.html

What are the some of the nationalities of the young people seeking pen pals?

Have you ever had a pen pal from a different country? If so, did he or she speak French?

Application

You are looking for a pen pal! Choose one francophone from the first suggested website. When you have decided with whom you would like to correspond, write a paragraph describing that person using as many adjectives as possible from this lesson. You will be using the verb être and the expressions c'est and il / elle est in your paragraph. In order to introduce yourself to your pen pal, you will then prepare an autoportrait (self-portrait) to send to him or her. Your pen pal will want to know as much about you as you are able to share, both positive and negative! Remember to use as many adjectives as possible.

MS/US French I

À votre tour activity

Unité 1: Faisons connaissance

Unité 1 Leçon 1 Bonjour!

Contexte

In Bonjour!, you learned how to say hello and goodbye, to count from 1 - 60, to ask and tell where people are from, and to talk about nationality. You also learned about Martinique.

Exploration

Imagine that you are going to participate in a student exchange program in a francophone country. Surf the following links to find answers to the following questions:
Where will you be studying?
Will you be staying with a family or in a dormitory?
What courses can you take?
What activities can you do?
Can you go on any excursions? If so, where?

Application

Imagine that you are planning a class trip to one of the amusement parks you looked at online. You may work in small groups if you'd like. Ask each other yes/no questions to find out more about what you want to do at your chosen park. Discuss the attractions you like and those you don't like. Mention who is going with you to the park. Plan an itinerary for the day, telling where you and your friends will be (what ride, what attraction) at different times during the day. Be sure to use the correct forms of the verb être.

possible choices; get 'em while they're hot

Hello everyone.
Each pair of students will need to choose a different individual upon whom to focus for this presentation. If you haven't yet chosen a figure from the French Renaissance, consider the following choices, (first come first served):
Catherine DeMedici
Jacques Cartier
Pierre Lescot
Jacques Lemercier
Josquin des Prez
Rabelais
Jean Molinet
Jacques Molinet
Jacques Pelletier du Mans
Pierre de Ronsard
Joachim du Bellay
Jean Fouquet
Germain Pilon
Andre LeNotre

Come and let me know your choice as soon as possible.
Amities,
Madame

Renaissance Figure PowerPoint Project

Thoroughly research a figure from the French Renaissance in order to create a graded 3-5 minute power point presentation which will be made before the class. Two of the slides in the presentation will have all appropriate accents added once they are projected onto the white board. Please be prepared in advance to choose two slides for this purpose. The last component of the presentation is a creative activity designed to test/exercise the comprehension of the rest of the class on at least three concepts or pieces of information delivered in the presentation.

*Students will research, prepare and present in pairs, sharing equal work loads.
* Power point slides should have a maximum of two well crafted and informative present tense sentences each. Many visuals are recommended.
* Each power point should be comprised of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 slides. *all writing and presenting will be done in French.
*students will be given a dry-erase marker on the day of presentation so as to make the accent additions to the two slides they have chosen to amend.
*creative comprehension activities may include but are not limited to cross-word puzzles, word searches, fill in the blank-style worksheets, or exercises encouraging other students to speak aloud.
****partners have been predetermined and will be given the opportunity to choose Renaissance figures out of a hat to ensure justice for all!

Partners are as follows:

Janine Chow and Eleanor Lichter
Sarah Fekini and Natasa Trajkovic
Kenneth Gudel and Rachel Latterich
Zoe Tracy and Fearghas Smith
Jack Hanlon and Monica Pastor
Kieran Naughton and Christopher Prijic
Sarah Jurkoic and Danny Wexler
David Hines: see Mme. Webber

Timing: This week’s block periods will be entirely devoted to research of your historic figure, the accent slides and your power point and class activity creation. Monday of next week is reserved for planning and rehearsal of your presentation. The first block period of next week will be comprised of presentations, starting at the very beginning of class.
